Photo-a-Day Week 4

Welcome back, hard to believe another week has zoomed by. Here is last week's photos, enjoy!

Day 20- A very cold day, clear blue skies. I have had a flurry of Eastern Bluebirds at my feeders and on the deck. As I said last week, I purchased a big box of dried meal worms for them to enjoy. As they wait their turns at the feeders they sit in the tree, fluffed up to keep warm.

Day 21- Mature Bald Eagle, sitting in a pine tree, overlooking the lake. In the winter the lake level is drawn down and we have lots of Bald Eagles taking advantage of fishing opportunities. Always a treat to see our nation's bird.

Day 22- As I mentioned above, we have had some very cold temperatures lately. Ice has been forming on the top of the lake. We also got some snow that sat on top of the ice. It made for some interesting photos.

Day 23- Lots of cut crystal in our curved glass curio cabinet. Many of these pieces were either my mom's or my husband's mom. The curio cabinet was also from my mother in law, a perfect place to showcase our treasures.

Day 24- As the planets are on the minds of those who like to stargaze, I find myself outside quite often, either getting photos of the moon or on very rare occasions, an Aurora Borealis! Our night sky out the back includes the lights on the other side of the lake.

Day 25-  Our dogs get their food delivered by Chewy and our kitty, Millie, thinks the box is hers. She loves hiding in the box. No one can see her, right?

Box!

Day 26- Long time readers may remember my mermaid table. You can read more about her here, or here or here. I named her Gilmore, after the siren Lorelei, then to Lorelei Gilmore from the TV show, ending up with Gilmore. She still is in our living room. Now that we have grandkids we are extra vigilant that they don't sit or lie on the glass. We did get a lot of fingerprints over Christmas.

Christmas Snow in South Carolina

The snow started late Christmas night.  Given the news reports, we were in for a big snow storm.  Our news stations are north of Greenwood, one of them is from Asheville, NC.  The geographical difference between there and here drive time is between one and two hours, but worlds different when a storm rolls in.  Thankfully we just got a dusting.
This was the view of the lake first thing this morning.  It was snowing from when I got up at seven until about eleven.  The direction that the snow blew in was so clear...from the north!

The backyard, the deck and the northern exposed areas were covered....... while the southern exposed areas were less so.  Look at the trees in the woods.  All have snow on the northern side.

These were taken on the side of the street that the pines protected the southern side.  In the photo below you can see my house through the trees.

These two were taken just across the street from ones above.

Full of snow cover!  The day is warming to above freezing, so the snow is getting thinner.....good photo opts were earlier today, now not so much.

Think this Asparagus Fern will come back?
Coralbark Maple is super against the white background.

So, while typing this short offering of winter, we had an event!!  A BALD EAGLE EVENT!  Sadly these are the photos from said event---

There were two Bald Eagles flying around, in and out of the woods.  Tough to get a good picture of them.  First true sighting of Bald Eagles since we moved in.

I did change lens for the last couple photos.  While editing those, the Redheaded Woodpecker flew into the yard.

He flew from tree to tree, taunting me to get a good shot.

Then this sweet little Junco flew to the deck railing, sitting still long enough to get a nice photo.
So, everyone, enjoy your snow---I will keep my eyes peeled for more bird sightings.

MEmeMEmeMEme--more of ME!

Kylee over at Our Little Acre tagged me for another Meme. I thought I could figure out the quiz thing that she did....guess I am not focused to figure it out today. So, since I did this not too long ago I will keep it short and sweet.

1. I get super excited when I see a Bald Eagle. Like the photo at the top? It is from my daughter's dock in North Carolina where she shares a house with three other kids.
2. Bugs fascinate me, well, some bugs.

3. I got a degree in Elementary Education in Pennsylvania and taught for a few years. Here is my book learnin' photo...

4. These Memes are supposed to be a window to 'my world' --here is my world.

5. I love using ornamental grasses in the landscape, they are almost carefree. This one reseeds, so its life in my garden may be short-lived.

5. Fragrance is a key element in my choice of plants.

6. Hot pink blooms are some of my favorite! And purple(!).

7. We built our family room on the back of our house in 1999 to take advantage of the wonderful views of the creek and the wildlife that lives in, around, and above it.

I know I am supposed to tag others to share about themselves. Since I just did one of these I will let it be up to you if you would like to share seven things about yourself. If you choose to do a Meme, link it back here so I can read about you!
