Photo-a-Day Week 38

As fall comes, there is a big change in my garden. Orb Weaver spiders and fall colors on the deciduous trees and shrubs.

Day 258-

Large spider webs in the garden appear in the fall. The Orb Weavers put their webs up at night and generally take them down in the morning. That's a lot of work each and every night! This one was quite large, the circle was probably about two feet across. It was also across the middle of the yard, so the spider had to secure its web from the Magnolia tree to the right and the house on the left.

The color version of this photo wasn't as impressive as the black and white one.

Day 259-

I have multiple Oakleaf hydrangeas in the yard. Three of them are in the front yard, they are Hydrangea quercifolia 'Ruby Slippers'. They really live up to their name in the fall. Their fall color is so vibrant, it really pops in the garden. The dog hair is an added bonus!

Day 260-

We live in an area where active timber harvesting is year-round. The log trucks are often overfilled. One doesn't want to follow too closely behind these loads.

Day 261-

When I went out front to play frisbee and rings with the dogs, there was a tiny gray feather that I just had to get a photo of. Fiona is a bit of a vacuum cleaner- she will inhale anything unusual on the ground, especially if you wanted to give it a closer look. I needed to get my photo quickly. Not sure what bird lost this feather.

Day 262-

We made a quick trip to Nashville for the weekend. This was the sunset reflecting off the buildings of downtown. Grandson (five years old) was having soccer practice on the field with views of the city.

Day 263-

With the kids going to school and parents working, Charlie and I played tourist for the day and went to the Grand Ole Opry for the backstage tour. If you are ever in Nashville, it is a good tour to take. I really marveled at the size of the stage where "Hee Haw" was filmed. It seemed rather small. We walked  through the building to the main stage. The photo was taken of the ropes and cables of backstage where the Opry is performed. The black and white image shows all the shadows and shapes.

My first thought for the photo of the day was in the entrance area. The lights with all the guitars were an interesting photo. All these guitars are Gibsons, donated by the company.

Day 264-

Coming home from the above mentioned grandson's soccer game we encountered this trolley. It made me laugh, the name on the trolley was "Trolley Parton". These trollies circle through town, where you can do a pub crawl of different breweries. Always something to see in Nashville.

Another week done! It is fun to gather photos from trips out of town. My day-to-day experiences at home center on the yard and garden. See you next week.

Photo-a-Day Week 9

Week wrap-up a couple days late. We were on the road and I am old school with my blog posts, always write it on the computer. Bouncing down the road and writing on my cellphone is an open invitation to many mistakes!

Day 55-
I always clean and sharpen my pruners in the early spring. Additionally, they will be sharpened after each pruning session, but it is good to do a thorough cleaning regularly. These pruners are 27 years old and have been used every year. One of these days I might break down and buy a new blade!

Sharpen and Clean

Day 56-
Springtime daylight has long shadows and windows of bright light shining through the garden. Yellow daffodils really pop with these rays of sun.

A Spot of Sunshine

Day 57-
This home has a brick column at the entrance of its driveway. On top of each pillar is a horse of some sort. I don't remember if this is a replacement for the matching horse's head on the other pillar. Just makes me laugh.

Wanna Ride?

Day 58-
The Great Blue Herons have nests, high in these trees along the creek. I have counted eight different nests as we drove by. Before the leaves open on all the trees, I will have to bring my camera with the zoom lens with me to get better photos

Day 59-
Something I have not seen before, fire hydrants on a truck. Not sure where they were going, we were going to Nashville.

Splash!

Day 60-
Walking to get coffee in my daughter's neighborhood, telephone pole with staples and nails, but no posters or messages left. It is a nice walkable neighborhood, so advertisers or folks with lost pets know this is a good spot to post their message.

Day 61-
Not sure why all these shoes are hanging from the line, but thought it was a good picture.

Another week is done, follow along as we move forward.

Gone and Back from Music City

Some of you know I spent last week involved with 'Mom & Pop Moving Co. Inc'.  Our youngest just moved to Nashville and we brought a truck full of her stuff from here to her new place.  Her sister and new husband helped by driving the rental truck from NC to Nashville.
After a long day on Monday, off loading the truck and putting beds together, Tuesday we had some shopping to do.   Driving into downtown we see the city skyline.  Doesn't the AT&T building look like Batman?

We headed into downtown to see the capitol, the Bicentennial Park and ......the Farmer's Market.

The wall that runs along the street the length of the market has the history of Tennessee.  It is a wonderful historical display that has great quotes from all sorts of folks that impacted the growth of Tennessee.

The state capitol building is at the end (or beginning) of the block.  You see the the columns on the right have  dates of the timeline.  The black granite wall tells the story of Tennessee.   I will go back again and again, kind of hot this time of year to read ALL of it.

The area of the wall that tells of the Civil War is just across the street from the Food Court at the Farmer's Market.

Time for lunch!!  Love the sculpture of the tomato and corn...the corn is a little harder to see, it is a bike rack.

The sculpture is titled "Corn and Tomato" by Dan Goostree and Paige Easter
The Food Court isn't a fast food court like we see in the shopping malls.  It is wonderful small independent venues.  Here is a great write up on the different foods available.  We had BBQ, quite good.  Someone in the group had a patriotic cupcake.  Blueberry filled.

On the Fourth we opted not to go to the fireworks display, still really warm.   We did do a quick run downtown to go by the Ryman, Tootsies, and other great iconic music destinations.
Next visit we will walk around and spend more time taking it all in.

It was time to head home and let her settle into her new place.  The drive home we went through the mountains, past Asheville.  Saw something kind of scary----fire on the mountain side.  Hope the rain that came through took care of it.
Yes, it is blurry, we were on the highway.

Not good....

When we got into our neighborhood we saw something we don't usually see... a gray fox trying to get to the lake through someone's driveway.   Hope this little guy found his drink of water and disappeared back into the woods.
Really good to be home, nothing feels so good as your own bed.  Time to get out into the garden and do some major weeding!
