About The Queen

I have contemplated for a while about what to put here. About me? I like red zippy cars, purple flowers, blue walls, fragrant blooms and variegated foliage. I am a Master Gardener.

I like Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou, kd land, and John Prine. I listen to The Sweeback Sisters, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Carolina Chocolate Drops. I have attended multiple Willie Nelson concerts, including his Fourth of July concert/party where I got sick from the heat.

My husband was a career Army officer as was my father. I was born in the Canal Zone and have moved many times in my life. We are moving to South Carolina this summer after having lived here in Seaford for almost 18 years.  We have moved to SC and have been enjoying life --each day is like waking up on vacation.  Our garden is still 7b but the calendar is a little bit different.  Come read about all my adventures in the garden and around the Greenwood area of SC.

I like dogs...and cats.....and enjoyed having parakeets in the past. Three dogs make a pack. My husband thinks having chickens would be fun, but the HOA in SC will not allow it. His idea is to put little jackets on them and tell folks they are our grandchildren.

I appreciate a good sense of humor, dislike mean behavior, enjoy a good pun, embrace whimsy and am attracted to the unusual/ out of the ordinary/ the unique. I have a mermaid.

While I have been the Queen of Seaford for quite a while I have been asked if I will change my moniker once we move to the Upstate. Have had a few ideas suggested already. If you have something to offer, let me know.

This blog is my outlet to play with my camera, my garden, expand my knowledge and perhaps make a friend along the way.
If you need to get in touch with me -- email me at thequeenofseaford AT gmail DOT com.  Would love to hear from you.

  2. And here was I thinking that "The Queen of Seaford" was an English pub! I stand corrected... Loved your post on Frosty Herbs, which I saw via Appalachian Feet...
Re Mexican oregano - try consulting Fer from http://www.mygardeninjapan.com/ although he currently lives in Japan, he is Mexican, and might be able to help...

  3. In your May 2009 blog, you referred to an unnamed peony cultivar as "Jewel Box".
I believe it might be "Sword Dance".
    Hope this helps.

  6. Dear Janet,
I would first like to compliment you on your amazing photography skills. I am most intrigued by your photos of the species Hyphantria Cunea in your blog about Creepy Crawlers. My name is Chuck and I am a Biomed major at The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. For my Bio 210 class (Animal Bio) we have to make an insect website for the public's use and I was given the insect the Fall Webworm. I am wondering if I may have permission to use your second photo of the Hyphantria Cunea Drury through the bottom of the leaf. I think this is an tremendous photo of their larval stage and would like to use it on my website. I will link the photo to your website and give you full copyrights. Please let me know as soon as possible

    Thank you,
    Chuck

  7. I am delighted to find other royalty here on the web, although I confess I misread your title as "Queen of Seafood" until I was reading your About page. Even though I am the Potato Queen, I'm really a no-nothing gardener who just makes it up as she goes along, with some helpful hints from my dad, and who copies shamelessly the strategies used by my good friend the Master Gardener in Billyburg, VA. I'm looking forward to delving into your site!

  8. Fun to read about another gardener who was born an Army brat and whose husband followed suit! My husband, though, actually transferred to the US Public Health Service and retired from there about 5 years ago. As if that's not enough similarity, I lived in the Canal Zone, Panama City side, for 3 1/2 years while in junior high. And I'm a Master Gardener. I just discovered your blog and I'm looking forward to following the Queen's adventures!

  9. June 6, 2015. I met you today at Parkwood in Oshawa. I was your tour guide in the house and remembered your moniker. It was a pleasure to read your blog and I hope you enjoy your "fling" in Toronto and surrounding area. Barbara G., Volunteer, Parkwood Estate Oshawa, ON Canada
