Fern Update

It rained yesterday/ last night.  Why do you ask I am bringing this up?  We drove by the Resurrection Fern tree this afternoon on our way to pick up our weekly order from Upstate Locally Grown.  I wanted to check and see if the fern had been revived from the rain.  Camera in hand, I captured the resurrection!!  This is a short and sweet post....just wanted to share.  Remember how shriveled and crusty it was in my last post?

Pretty amazing  isn't it?

    1. Alan, thanks! Thought of you tonight, heard a Great Horned Owl as I took the dogs for a walk to the right of the driveway, then a Barred Owl to the left ...think there is a territory war going on!

  5. Janet,
Never even thought of these drying up in the winter. We are just of of the ferns range I think, but we do not need to travel very far to see them.

    1. Randy, I was surprised that the ferns can grow as far north as Delaware.

  6. Yay! Totally awesome! There is an old oak tree across town that is covered in these...and I love seeing them explode with greenery as soon as the rains start again in autumn...so magical!

    1. Diana, so sorry about the drought. I hadn't seen these ferns until last year, but they could have been right under my nose--- or above my head. ;-)

  9. So pretty! We're getting snowed on now - the storm that caused such havoc in Seattle has made its way to us now, but we're more used to snow over here. More snowplows and such. So we'll be OK. That green fern looks especially pretty compared to all the white out my window, though!

    1. VW, I have seen some of the reports on the TV about Seattle....snowed under big time! Enjoy your snow, hope it is shortlived and stay warm.

  10. Look what the rain did. It is amazing how they survive on the tree to start with then to see them just come alive again. Fascinating Janet.

  11. That is just so pretty! I've seen some here in trees, but it's usually in a very wooded and shady area. They look prehistoric.

  13. What a cool plant! I love that it adapts instead of dying. :o) I wonder how long it's been in that tree?

    1. Tammy, I like it too. I wonder how long too...no way of knowing (I think). I will watch it for the next few years (or more) and see how fast it spreads.
