Garden Bloggers Bloom Day...the Day After
Happy Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, a day late. We are still unpacking and sorting out all our 'junk'. We have more toys and other treasures than I thought. Both of our kids have grown and moved out...so why do we have this stuff? Memories, easiest way to describe it, memories. Now to find a place to put it all away.
My garden has been blooming more and more every day since we moved in. In the front garden I have Phlox subulata, which is blooming a little bit now. Glad it is getting established and happy.
Additionally in the front garden I have some gardenia bushes, 'Frost Proof' and Pennisetum 'Little Bunny'. The gardenia is also blooming more and more every day. Little Bunny is a really nice mini-ornamental grass, at most it is a foot tall. You can tell it is a rainy day. Love the raindrops on the blooms.
In the middle of the front yard is a Magnolia grandiflora 'Little Gem'. Right now there are three buds getting ready to open. The fragrance of this bloom is really nice. Little Gem will be a great specimen tree for the front as it grows and matures. I also have three Little Gem in the backyard.
A reliable bloomer and favorite of the butterflies and hummingbirds is, of course, Miss Huff. Lantana camara 'Miss Huff' fills the area next to the driveway. When I look at the difference from when we closed on the house and today, I am amazed at the growth!
We have lots of little friends in the garden. Here is one of the little guys. We have all sorts of colors..yellow ones, green ones, tan with bright blue tails, and who knows what else.
One of the items on the wish list was a boat....it didn't take too long for the wish to come true............
So, if I am not gardening or studying for my new Master Gardener class (which starts tomorrow), I will be out on the boat with my honey and the water dogs.
Be sure to venture on over to Carol's web site for more of GBBD postings.

I am now moderating all comments. Too much spam is coming through. Sorry folks.
It was good to see a posting from the Queen. Your new plants look nice and healthy, you must be getting plenty of moisture.
ReplyDeleteBlooms already?? Lucky you! You are a fast mover. I must not show your new boat to my husband-he'd be most wistful.
ReplyDeleteI always say better late than never. I didn't get around to posting for GBBD. You look very relaxed in that photo. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new boat, looks like dogs are enjoying it too. :) Pretty blooms in your garden this month. Couldn't imagine summer without good old 'Miss Huff'.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as though you, hubby, the dogs and plants are settling into your new home! I had never seen the green lizards (Anole) until we moved here to GA. They are the neatest little creatures and will change colors to brown when on a brown service! They are my little friends and I talk to them. Yes, I talk to the lizards!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would have a boat before too long :-) How could one live with a lake in their backyard and not have a boat? Our dream house will be on a lake verse us having to load up and drive to the lake...
Looks like your plants are moving right along in the development and blooming departments.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are really going to enjoy that new toy you have. Bob got our boat ready to take out so we can take our boys fishing but the weather has been in the high 90s so we're going to wait now. We took Garrett out last year and he out fished us. Mason has never been out yet so that should be fun! He turned 6 today.
I'm sorry you have to unpack now. But I'm glad you're making time to play on the boat, too! Looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI can see that you and your husband are really enjoying your new home, Janet, especially the new boat! So much already going on in your new garden--'Little Bunny' really is a nice accent grass.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new MG class!
I still think Monroe took the pic of the 4 of you...
ReplyDelete:)
And where else should a queen find herself but in the lap of luxury?
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you've already got the garden going, complete with fancy visitors. I bet it smells heavenly around there.
Looks like you are settling in just fine. Love the small grass. I have often contemplated putting it in my garden.

Always Growing
Oh lovin' the new boat Janet! How fun and good for you on making your dreams come true!
ReplyDeleteYou also have such a great start on your new garden already ~ I'm really impressed. I think Gardenias have the most heavenly scent. I bought one and grew it in a container one year just to smell them. You're so lucky to have them growing in your garden.
The magnolia bud looks beautiful too. Glad to hear things are going well for you in SC. Hope you're enjoying your Master Gardener class too.
Hi
ReplyDelete- Les, yes, many of my plants are nice and healthy. Irrigation from the lake gave them a good start.
-Tina, I do feel lucky, especially with the gardenias...so fragrant! My husband was very wistful...to the point of getting a boat. :-)
-Rosey, I was very relaxed! Have enjoyed the heck out of going for an evening or morning ride.
-Racquel, thanks! We all have enjoyed going out on the boat. You are right, summer isn't summer without Miss Huff.
-Skeeter, yes we are settling in quite well. I talk to the little lizards too. There was one helping me plant some flowers the other day.
-RG, yes these plants are doing well. We are enjoying the big new toy....no grandkids yet, but certainly would be a treat to take them out on a boat.
-VW, we are finally done with the boxes, but a few things still need to find 'homes'. Bewteen the boat and the garden, putting things away is for a rainy day.
-Rose, we are!! I like Little Bunny, nice compact grass.
MG class is coming along nicely.
-AoF, she went out on the boat with us two nights ago!!
-Grace, it does feel like the lap of luxury. :-D
Each day more and more blooms are opening....oh the fragrances!
-Jan, think you would be very happy with Little Bunny. Hameln is also a nice small one.
-Kathleen, yes, we are lovin' it! Many of the shrubs and trees were put in my the landscaper. With dogs, I wanted sod and foundation plants in....red clay soil--ugh!
MG class is a little different than Virginia, so taking the class is good.
You inspire me to try Bunny Tails again. My attempt last year was a failure - the summer sun cooked them. It takes inspiration from an outside source for me to try something again after failure.
ReplyDelete-Ray
Thanks Ray, think Little Bunny should do well for you. Water to establish...then enjoy. It is certainly hot here in SC and they held their own.
ReplyDeleteWow! South Carolina life seems to be treating you (and your garden) very well. I loved the pic of you guys on the boat, with the water dogs - life looks good.
ReplyDeleteI'll be interested to see what you keep planting up there (the 'Little Bunny' was certainly sweet - I'm not familiar with it, but I have some areas that needed something like that, something shorter - and that might just be the thing, if it can take coastal living).
