Photo-a-Day Week 13

Welcome back for another week of photo a day wrap-up. We drove home on Sunday from my daughter's house. Part of the trip was through Pennsylvania.

Day 83-
I went to college in Pennsylvania, and seeing horse and buggies was commonplace.  As we drove along the turnpike we saw one riding along the parallel road to the highway. It was a pretty horse and its gait was fun to watch.

Heading Out

Day 84-
Once we arrived back in South Carolina it was apparent that pollen season had exploded in our area. We had some rain and the yellow pollen of the pine trees cascaded down the driveway, forming some nice patterns.

And So It Begins

Day 85-
Several years ago, I had a lot of Muscari armeniacum, Grape Hyacinths growing along the driveway.  Some volunteers appear along the other side of the driveway. I enjoy seeing them pop up wherever they want.

Day 86-
I bought some new shoes and didn't toss the shoe box right away. Seems it is a good fit for Millie. I still haven't thrown it away as she still gets in it a couple times a day.

Perfect Fit

Day 87-
I like how quiet the lake is, especially at dusk with the pink skies. We have very little boat traffic at our end of the lake, especially in the winter/spring. I probably should have waited a little longer to get a photo as the skies got redder and more vibrant.

Quiet

Day 88-
This time of year, it is really hard not to take lots and lots of photos of the newly emerging leaves for this challenge. I am trying to vary my photos so they are not all garden photos. This is a Netted Chain Fern, Woodwardia areolata. I brought these ferns to South Carolina when we moved from Virginia. I love their bronze foliage as they emerge.

Bronze

Day 89-
Some springs I think my garden is color coded. First comes the yellow blooms, mostly in daffodils and Edgeworthia. Pinks emerge in my flowering Crabapple and Redbuds. Now I have lots of white and green. Pictured is Spirea x vanhouttei and behind it is another flowering Crabapple, Malus x zumi 'Golden Hornet'. Also blooming in my white and green theme are a couple different Viburnum and Dogwoods, Cornus florida.

Green and White

This photo a day challenge isn't as easy as it would seem. Like I have said before, these are all new photos. My photo library is quite large, and I could easily dive in and get old pictures, but scouring my surroundings for an interesting photo adds to the fun.

Just a Beautiful Day

Yesterday started early, got to watch the sun come up.  Our oldest dog has an internal clock that gets her up at the crack of dawn.   I love seeing the sunlight sparkle through the trees.  The problem is that it is so early.  Once she settles down, I go back to sleep.

Having cool nights as the lake is warming up gives us fog rising off the water in these wee hours.   Fog is always a great photo opportunity.

This morning I got to get see sunrise and more fog.

The gardens have been calling for me to come out and explore the new growth and lovely blooms.
Come walk with me through the yard ---
Euphorbia 'Ascot Rainbow'

Red Buckeye, leafing out
Aesculus pavia

A daffodil from a mixed assortment, variety unknown

Hellebore 'Pink Frost'

Muscari 'Blue Sky'
This sweet light blue Muscari is planted by the blue Cypress ... a little color echo going on.  Hope it reseeds and spreads in this area a bit more.
Callitropsis glabra 'Blue Ice'  and Loropetalum 'Ever Red'

Viburnum tinus 'Sweet Bouquet' with Narcissus 'Tahiti' behind it

A butterfly on the Edgeworthia chrysantha, this screams 'SPRING'!
And finally Magnolia x 'Jane' is blooming, another year or two and she will be quite a stunning focal point in the front gardens.

At this point, I am happy Jane is alive and growing.  There are difficult areas in my yard.  Do you have any spots that drive you crazy?

A Little Bit of Sunshine Inside

Yesterday I thought it would be good to bring in some of the things that are growing/blooming in the garden.   I have lots of plants that are getting their spring foliage and some of them are flowering as well.
I have multiple daffodils in my bouquet.  The large trumpet facing us I believe to be 'Glen Cova', the tiny one is 'Grand Soleil d'Or'.  The dark foliage in the front is Loropetalum 'Ever Red', blooming its head off now.  For filler I used some Acorus 'Sweet Flag Grass' think it is Ogon.
Also included was a handful of Grape Muscari armeniacum, love those little blue bell shaped blooms.
This beauty is 'Tahiti', a wonder spicy scent!    Behind the Tahiti is a Red twigged Dogwood, Cornus sericea 'Kelseyi' and Spirea Van Houttei, just starting to leaf out.   Some of the red leaves of Nandina 'Harbor Dwarf' add a little more red.

Tucked in the middle is Viburnum tinus 'Spring Bouquet', I haven't had any fragrance from it yet.....maybe it is the wrong time of day when I am trying to catch a whiff?  I know some plants put off their scent different times of the day.
For some added height and texture I also put some dried Panicum foliage, a nice soft beige.   I like having a bouquet in the house of whatever is blooming in my garden.  Do you bring in any of your blooms?
