Closeups and Updates

I know many of you have a super camera with a macro setting that practically brings you inside the blooms that we all love. While my camera isn't really super duper, there are times I am tickled with the shots I am able to come up with. Take this one for example. Do you know what it is?

Here is the wider shot....Lacecap Hydrangea. The flowers that we see are sterile and it is the tiny ones that are the fertile ones. Pretty amazing to see up close.

My Yorktown Onion in the backyard is opening and I know it is time to go up to the battlefield and get some pictures of them.

Here is a pass along plant that I think most every Master Gardener has had at one time...Sundrops Oenothera fruticosa What a bright sunny bloom!

  2. thanks Gail,
I was surprised to see how clear the photo showed the tiny flowers. Have it as my computer wallpaper now.

  3. OH MY GOODNESS your lacecap is LOADED!!!! WOW! I too am sometimes amazed at the shots my camera gives me. It is just a Nikon Coolpix 10mp, not the big fancy photography kind. I am amazed you were able to get such a great shot of that lacecap. It is very hard....I have tried!

  4. Dear Princess, thanks! I have so many photos that are blurry because they are too close, so this was a nice treat. My camera is a Sony cybershot P93, nice but not 'ultra' camera. The Queen :-)

  5. Great macro shot Janet of the Lacecap. :) No sign of my Yorktown Onions yet, but I will definitely have to make a trip to the battlefield to see them in full glory.

  7. Awesome photos! I love hydrangeas but I am afraid I don't have the right amount of shade for one. My mother in law was given a small bush in celebration of my husband's birth. That bush is now three big bushes and is almost 50 years old.

  9. Lauren, I have my hydrangeas in the front yard in full sun-- in zone 7b. They need to be well watered. The lacecaps are in part sun part shade. Still working on getting them bluer.
Cameron, They are frilly aren't they?

  10. I didn't guess right either but you should be proud of those photos ~ they're amazing! I am a big fan of the intricate detail the macro setting shows. You can definitely see that with your hydrangea photo. That Allium is beautiful too.

  14. My camera is the same way Janet. I too get tickled to get the occasional close up. I knew right away this was a hydrangea-one of my favorites. It is beautiful!
